This month we continue our focus on planning. In January, we looked at our intentions and resolutions and we visualized ways to set our plan in motion. In February we focused on writing down our goals to make them come to life. Now it's time to focus on getting to the finish line by enacting ways to achieve our goals and building resilience.
It's March and for some, those January intentions and resolutions may be long forgotten. However, if you took the time to set your intentions and then write down your goals, you are probably beginning to see some traction.
Now, it's time to implement. It's like preparing for a marathon. First you get the idea, you set out to do it and then you have to implement or work towards your goal. For something like "completing a marathon in 2019" this goal may mean you'll need to get the right training to work towards your goal several days each week. You'll also need to find the best nutrition for endurance (we're in the long game). You'll need the right gear, and you'll need to find ways to motivate yourself to follow through. One big way to help is by building your resilience. This will lead to endurance, which gets you across the finish line.
Resilient people are aware of situations, their own emotional reactions and the behavior of those around them. In order to manage your feelings, and your motivation, it is essential to understand what is causing your thoughts, your feelings and why. By remaining aware, resilient people can maintain control of a situation and think of new ways to tackle problems.
According to the American Psychology Association, here are some ways you can build resilience at work:
- Cherish social support and interaction.
- Treat problems as a learning process.
- Avoid making a drama out of a crisis.
- Celebrate your successes.
- Develop realistic life goals for guidance and a sense of purpose.
- Take positive action.
- Nurture a positive view of yourself.
These steps can help you build the resilience you need to stay focused on your goals. If you'd like to learn more about building your resilience, you can read up on it via this blog or this website.
We do wish you the best of luck in March and all of 2019 with your intentions, your resolutions, in accomplishing your goals and building your resilience.
